Analysis Of Taboo Word Emerges In Yowis Ben Movie

Nowadays, almost every movie uses taboo words in the dialogue because the useof taboo words in the dialog makes the characters of the film look natural toexpress their emotion. Taboo words support the representation of a real life in theplot of the story.This study is conducted to analyze taboo word that emerges inYowis Ben movie using Wardhaugh (2006) theory, specifically this study is aimedto identify the type and describe the function of taboo that are uttered by fourcharacters, Bayu, Doni, Nando and Susan because they are main characters whichare used taboo words in their dialogues. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative approach and content analysistechnique to get descriptive information. Specifically, this study usesdocumentation technique to collect the data by (1) Downloading the movie, (2)Watching the movie closely, (3) Transcribing the dialogue and then (4)Re-watching the movie while reading to check the accuracy of the script. After thedata are collected the writer uses content analysis technique to analyse the data by(1) Highlighting ,(2) Categorizing (3) Coding, (4) Displaying, (5) Analyzing (6)Concluding.The result of this research states as follows. 33 taboo words are found in thisstudy, from nine types only four types of taboo that are uttered by Bayu, Doni,Nando and Susan in Yowis Ben movie, they are certain game animal (12,12%),Sex (66,66%), Bodily function (18,19%) and Religious matters (3,03%). Thereare four functions that appear in the movie: to show contempt (57,58 %), to drawattention to oneself (36,36 %) , to be provocative (3,03 %), and to mockauthority(3,03 %). The characters in Yowis Ben movie frequently utter taboo wordpurposely to show their contempt, it appears 19 times with highest percentage.
