Abstract

This study discussed about word-formation processes of the jargon used by traffic police officers at Satlantas Polrestabes Manyar Surabaya. The data was obtained from the interview conducted on October 3, 2016 to November 28, 2016 at Satlantas Polrestabes Manyar Surabaya. The participants of the research consist of the operators at Satlantas Manyar Polrestabes Surabaya and the traffic police officers on the highway of Surabaya. The data was obtained by recording the conversation between the operators and the traffic police officers, transcribing the necessary data into written form, arranging the data intoseveral units based on the long pauses made by the speakers, and collecting supporting information to obtain a thorough comprehension on the topic. The study finds out that there are 63 jargon terms in the data. They have undergone certain word-formation processes, which are affixation, reduplication, clipping, compounding, blending, acronyms, abbreviation, alphabetical symbol, eponyms, borrowing, and multiple processes.There are no back-formation, coinage, conversion (zero-derivation), unique morphs, suppletion, meta-analysis processes found in the data.
