An analysis of sign and connotative meaning in “Syair Tanpo Waton Lyrics”

This study concerns with the analysis of sign and connotative meaning in Syair tanpo waton lyrics. This study proposes a problem what the signified in Syair tanpo waton and what the connotative meaning of Syair tanpo waton’s lyrics, Is. This analysis is specially focused on sign and connotative meaning in Syair tanpo waton lyrics. The researcher uses a qualitative approach and content analysis in order to get descriptive information, specifically, this study uses sign in semiotic theory and connotative meaning the research technique. The data is Syair Tanpo waton by Gus Nizam released in 2007. The data are collected by(1) Reading and comprehending the lyrics. (2) Identifying the signs used in the lyrics. (3) looking for the signified in the lyrics. (4) Finding and classify the signified and connotative meaning in the lyrics. Verification of data: while the procedure of data analysis are: 1. Display the data into tabel. 2. Define the connotative meaning. 3. Classify into signified. 4. Discuss the data. 5. Draw a conclusion. In the Findings of signified, It is found that (1) the signifier is Aja mung ngaji syareat blaka and the signified is don’t just learn of syariatto get miserable. (2) the signifier is Sabar nariman najan pas-pasan ,Kabeh tinakdhir saking Pengeran and the signified is Allah is one of everything. The findings of connotative meaning are (1) Gur pinter ndongeng nulis lan maca, tembe mburine bakal sangsara it mean that life is not enough brilliant in knowledge, with the basics of islam very important for our lives. (2) Ing pepahese gebyare ndunyo it means don’t cheated of the glorious world. The world is a stay for a moment, so, use this world necessarily. Finally, based on the finding,The finding revealed sixteen stanzas which have different meanings. This study explores the song’s lyric with the sign semiotic theory and described the implicit meaning in every lines,so the reader could understand what the Gus Nizam’s said and to know the connotative meaning of song lyrics.The finding of connotative meaning are twelve stanzas, meanwhile there are have diffirent meaning also. Because The connotations of a signifier relate in part to the other signifier with which it occurs within a particular subject.The researcher suggest the future research will be able to develop sign based on semiotic theory by Ferdinand de Sausurres and connotative meaning by Roland Barthes to see further any other rhetorical aspect.
