Grammatical Cohesion Used in Business Column in The Jakarta Post Newspaper

The first is spoken language. Spoken language is a language used to express one’s ideas, feeling, and desires directly to whom he wants to talk. The second is written language. Written language is a language used in some paper such as found in newspaper, magazine, novel etc.There is linguistic device which is utilized to relate the sentences. It’s called a cohesion device.In this study, the writer will analyze grammatical cohesion device that appear in Jakarta Post Newspaper. The Jakarta Post Newspaper is a newspaper that is published daily. It means that it is published every day. The Jakarta Post is only one the newspaper uses English language in Indonesia. The writer uses the theory proposed by Halliday and Hasan to analyze the research findings. The research uses descriptive qualitative analysis which produces descriptive data in the form of written words.The source of the data that are used for research was taken from Jakarta Post Newspaper period on June 07th, 2017, July 24th 2017, July 26th 2017, July 27th 2017, July 28th 2017, July 30th 2017 especially in business column.In collecting the data, the writer read the Jakarta Post Newspaper,especially Business Column in the website www.thejakartapost.com. Then, the writer collected grammatical cohesion device that appear in the text and the data analysis technique which is used in this research is content analysis technique.The results of the study show that there are two major conclusions that can be derived: (1) There are the types of grammatical cohesion devices are used in Business Column of The Jakarta Post Newspaper. They are personal reference, demonstrative reference, additive conjunction, adservative conjunction, causal conjunction; (2) There are the types of grammatical cohesion devices are used in Business Column of The Jakarta Post Newspaper.The first thing that can be concluded from this research in business column in the Jakarta post newspaper are formed by cohesion devices. It functions as intersentence connector. Thus one sentence relate to other sentences are integrated by cohesion devices as texture.
