Some of considering taboo is a forbidden word to say to anyone, because it is not polite. Actually, we often hear those words such as goddamn, shit, fuck you, but the kind of taboo words have different formed and meaning. The meaning of taboo word itself depend on the context and situation. This study is conducted to identify the type and the function of selected Hip Hop Songs utterances which are on the website of The 9 Greatest Rap Disses, and to explain how the American Rapper used the taboo word. The study uses the theory of taboo words from Battistella and Ronald Wardaugh to do the analysis. The study uses descriptive qualitative method. The data is Rap Disses Songs utterances and the source of data is American Rapper. The study collects the data from song lyrics on www.google.com. The data are categorized into the types and the functions of taboo word. The analysis of data uses rules as the pattern of analyzing taboo word based on Battistella‘s and Ronald Wardaugh‘s theory of taboo word. After that, the data is interpreted using contextual explanation. The analysis finds that The four types of taboo word based on Battistella‘s theory are found in Rap Disses lyric. They are Taboo Word of Epithet, Taboo Word of Profanity, Taboo Word of Vulgarity, and Taboo Word of Obscenity. And also, the analysis finds that The four functions of taboo word based on Ronald Wardaugh‘s theory are found. They are To Draw Attention to Oneself, To Show Contempt, To Be Provocative, and To Mock Authority.
