Abstract

A movie is one of the media for learning because it is very easy to understand andimitate in terms of behavior or conversation. However, not all the contents of themovie present good examples, several scenes contain negative things. The writertakes the example of gender differences in one of the movies made by Walt DisneyCompany which is Brave movie, which contains gender stereotypes phenomenon.In this study, the study tried to investigate the gender roles in children’s films suchas Brave movie. Thus, this study focuses on gender stereotypes found in Bravemovies. This study aims to reveal how Merida’s character deals with genderstereotypes, whether she falls within the stereotypes rule or not, the writer used thetheory of Parvez to measure Merida’s masculine traits. The qualitative method isused in this study, data collection in analyzing the movie Brave is used by watchingthe movie repeatedly, reading the summary, taking some notes, understanding thescript, identifying the words or dialogues, reading some journals or articles, andfinding some references on the internet related to the analysis. The study questionsare focused on analyzing the characteristics of Princess Merida. The result of thisstudy found that Merida’s character has ten masculine traits.
